Andaman

Andaman & Nicobar is a union territory of India.  It is located in the indian ocean group of 572 small & big islands in the southern reachof  the bay of bengal .The island is 150  km (93 mi) north of asia in indonesia seperated from thailand and myanmar (Barma) by the andaman sea .It two group of island andaman Group of  island & Nicobar Group of  island seperated by 10D ,  Andaman to the north of this latitude and Nicobar to the south .Andaman Nicobar  island capital is Port Blair .Total land area of this island approxmatily 8,249 Km (3,185 sqmi). The Andaman  & Nicobar island is home of andamanese people like Jarwa,Onge,Great Andamanese( Nigrotic Tribes) is a andaman Group of island &  Shompen & Nicobarise (mangoloin Tribes) Nicobar Group of island  this island is home land of this tribes People .The highest point is located in north andaman (diglipur) saddle peak at 732 m (2,402 ft), Andaman group was 325 island which cover area of 6,170km (2,382 sqm) & 27 Island is inhabitens , Nicobar group only 10 inhabitents island area of 1,765 km (6,815sqm) offical & language of andaman nicobar island is Hindi & English . Common language is hindi (every one understand & speak),some other language use in andaman Nicobar islands is.Nicobaris,Tamil,Telugu,Bangali,Punjabi,Ranchi,Marathi,English.


Name of the Andaman Island is ancient theory that become prevalent in the later 19th Century is that it drives from Andoman, a form of Hanuman ji, Sanskrit name one Hindu God Another Italian traveler Niccolo mention the island in world map and sad the name means Island of God.


 



The territory is home to about 225 species of butterflies and moths, including some of the larger and most spectacular in the world. Ten species are endemic to these Islands. Mount Harriet National Park is one of the richest areas of butterfly and moth diversity on these Island.

 




Andaman Padauk - Andaman Padauk is a tall deciduous tree found only in Andaman Group of Island . It grows upto height of 120 feet.




Andaman State Animal : Andaman Dugons is also know as a sea cow. only strictly marine mammal, which is herbivorous. It mainly feeds on sea-grass and other aquatic vegetation. Dugong is distributed in shallow tropical waters in Indo-Pacific Region. The animal is about three-metre length and weighs about 400 kg.
       



Andaman State Bird : Wood pigeon is an endemic bird , which is found in Andaman & Nicobar Group of Island



Andaman Island  atypical forest coverage is made up of twelve types, namely:

The majority of people of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands are Hindus (69.44%), with Christians forming a large minority of 21.7% of the population, according to the 2011 census of India. There are small but significant Muslim (8.51%) and Sikh minorities.

Island Tourism Festival

The Island Tourism Festival is the annual cultural event organized for promotion of tourism and entertainment for islanders. The main events are held at Port Blair. However, small programme, as a part of festival are also organized in other places like Wimberlygunj, Wandoor, Neil, Havelock, Rangat, Mayabunder, Diglipur, Hut Bay, Car Nicobar, Kamorta ,Campbell Bay etc. The 10 -day festival is held annually from 5ththJanuary with an inaugural function to be graced by Hon .LG at ITF ground Port Blair. The inaugural function is telecast live in DD Bharati and is beamed for telecast in many countries.
 
During the festival, the main venue - ITF ground swells with people from all walks of the life and tourists. The highlight of the festival at ITF ground is the exhibition depicting strides made by the Island Administration in various spheres and sale of general merchandise, food stalls, and stalls of interest to tourists, Floating Restaurant etc. The main focal point, however, is the performance of mainland artists especially reputed music bands, Bollywood singers, dancers, performers etc. Artists of East Zone, South Zone Cultural Centers are also invited by the Art & Culture department and performed simultaneously in outlying islands. Hasya kavisammelan is also organized by the official language department to delight the crowd. To accommodate crowd throngs up for mega shows alternate venues are set up at Netaji stadium Port Blair also.
 
Beach Festival:

The beach festival is the recent addition of festivals made by the department to cater to the needs of beach lovers. The venue of the festival may vary. Composition of this festival are beach activities like beach volley ball, and other beach sports like tug of war, kabaddi etc. Food courts, variety entertainment programmes, fun activities are also arranged depending up on venue and facilities near the beach.

 
Music Festival/Monsoon Festival:
To provide round the year tourism activities in the Island, 
Monsoon festival is organized in the month of May – June
with ingredients like Music, food kiosks etc.
 
 
Food Festival & World Tourism Day celebrations:
Coinciding with World Tourism Day celebration on 27th September, the department organizes 4- day food festival at ITF ground with exhibition and sale of ethnic food of A&N Islands. Music, variety cultural programme are other attractions to the festival.

 
Film Festival:
The Information and Publicity Division of the Directorate organizes Annual Film Festival in Port Blair for three days during November in association with Directorate of Film Festival, GoI. Classic films from various Indian languages are screened at different venues for entertainment of film lovers & tourists, free of cost.

Do's

  • Treat National Parks as they are sanctorum of our precious natural heritage.
  • Obtain permits from the Chief Wildlife Warden for photography/videography/investigation inside a sanctuary or a Marine National Park.
  • Make use of services of authorised Tourist Guides.
  • While driving, follow the traffic rules, keep left. Carry legal documents like driving license, permit, passport etc.
  • Consult life guards before entering the sea.
  • Swim in safe areas only.
  • Dispose of the garbage and plastics at proper places/dustbins.
  • Do not pluck or damage corals.
  • Take back only photographs and sweet memories leave behind only footprints and ripples.
  • Obtain transit pass from the Deputy Conservator of Forest, Wildlife Division, Port Blair, to transport any wild animal/trophy, article etc. outside the islands.
  • Foreign nationals are requested to obtain the Restricted Area Permit
  • Visit only permitted areas.
  • Avail the service of Scuba Dive Instructors having certification of international professional organisation like PADI, CMAS, NAUI, BSAC, or SSI for safe diving experience.
  • Keep the beaches and the environment clean.
  • Observe decency and decorum in dress.
  • On beach, parents are requested to keep an eye on their kids at all times.
  • Please drink sufficient water to avoid dehydration.
  • Please consult reception desk of Tourism Division of Directorate of Information, Publicity and Tourism before availing the services of any tour operators/travel agents/Scuba Dive Centres

Don'ts

  • Foreign Nationals should not enter the islands without required permit.
  • Do not enter into restricted/tribal areas.
  • Do not take video film or photographs inside Tribal Reserve areas of the indigenous tribes.
  • Do not take pictures of the Airport, Government Dockyard, Defence Establishments, Naval Wharf, Dhanikhari Dam and Chatham Saw Mill.
  • Do not collect, destroy coral or touch/ break live coral. Please do not stand on the coral reef while snorkelling/Scuba Diving.
  • Do not take video or film without permit, wherever such permits are required.
  • Do not carry sea fans and seashells unless specific permits are obtained from the Fisheries Department.
  • Do not throw garbage and plastic in public places, beaches and into the sea.
  • Do not swim after consuming liquor.
  • Do not light fire in Forests and Protected Areas as it not only destroys forests but also damages wildlife habitat.
  • Person who commits breach of any of the conditions of the wildlife protections shall be punishable under law.
  • Do not stay on the beaches or forest during night by putting up tents/hammocks.
  • Nudity on beaches and public places is strictly forbidden.
  • Do not enter in the National Parks without prior permission.
  • Corals & Shells, collection of which are prohibited under Wildlife Protection Act, 1972
